Below is a brief set of instructions listing the procedures to follow to create your own personalized FARM letter.
Step 1: Choose and download a template. Download the template you feel best fits your needs from our website. Your choices include either a fully prepared FARM letter template or a blank template for you to personalize and prepare by inserting first tuesday copy. Before selecting a template, decide whether you are going to distribute your FARM letter by sending it in the mail or by email. If you send the FARM letter through the USPS mail, you will need to choose one of our templates that include a mail-to section (for more detailed instructions on how to use our mail-ready templates, see step 6). If you intend to email the news letter and have a leads database, you may be able to quickly generate emails to your targeted list of addresses.
Step 2: Enter your personal information. No matter which template you choose, you will need to enter your business information if you are to build yourself as a brand and attract clientele. Each template contains text boxes for the entry of your contact information. Highlight each category with your cursor by clicking anywhere in the designated area and begin typing. Your personalized information will appear in place of the original text. If you have chosen a template that has already been prepared by first tuesday, you are ready to send your newsletter after entering your business information, unless you wish to include images.
Step 3: Insert pictures. To include pictures, simply highlight the box designated for pictures by placing your cursor over the box and clicking once. You will see small dots in each corner of the box when it is successfully selected. Go to the insert tab and select picture. A list of your files will appear. Highlight the appropriate file and choose insert. The image will appear in the preselected box in the template. You may resize it by dragging any of the corners of the image either inward (minimize) or outward (maximize). If you are using an image you find from the internet, you may be able to simply copy and paste the image by right clicking and performing the same operations.
Step 4: Include first tuesday news copy. Go to the FARM Letter Copy section on this page. Here you will find numerous articles that have been condensed for your use in a FARM letter. Our FARM letter news copy is organized by Current Events and various Marketing Topics for your convenience. Choose the article you think will be most appealing to your audience. Highlight the text you wish to import and simply copy from our website and paste into the designated text boxes in the template.
Step 5: Include original copy. Compose your own copy covering local information that you wish to bring to the attention of your target audience. For tips on how to write engaging and informative articles for your FARM letters, see our first tuesday Writer’s Guide.
Step 6: Mail your FARM letter. Our mail-ready templates are formatted to conform to USPS regulations. They have a tri-fold design in order to meet the paper thickness requirements set by the USPS. Simply fold along the dotted lines and place adhesive rounds in the designated areas to fasten the document closed.
