      Having started my career in real estate selling new homes for a local homebuilder about 25 years ago, I can attest that many first time home buyers bought their homes due to the mortgage interest deduction. We would sit down with the potential buyer(s) and compare the cost of ownership with what they were paying for rent and nine out of ten times the net result was that their monthly housing cost was the same or less. —Jeffrey Davis
